It’s that time of year
Change is in the air…
It’s that time of year; the time when I wonder where the summer days went and start to see the beginning of fall. Here in the northeast the days are getting a bit shorter, the nights are cooler, and I can feel fall is right around the corner. It’s been a wonderful summer for me; I have spent less time on planes, more time at the beach and lots of time with family and friends. And the best has been snuggling with grandbabies. I hope your summer has been as good for your soul as it has been for me.
Switching to fall, back to business means it’s time for us to get ready for upcoming coding changes. ICD-10 codes are updated annually on October 1st. I did the research on the new codes coming out and this year I have to say there aren’t many code changes or updates that will impact most OMFS offices. Attached is a link to the codes if you want to review on your own. https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coding-billing/icd-10-codes/2025-icd-10-cm
The ADA has some changes coming up for 2024/2025. There are some new codes, revisions and deletions for 2025 which I will review in an upcoming newsletter. In this newsletter I want to bring your attention to the new ADA claim form that was introduced for 2024. This year there were some additional changes made to the claim form and the ADA is encouraging you to stop using all older versions of the claim form and use this version.
If you are still using older paper versions of the claim form you will want to update to this newest version. To check the version of the claim form you are using, look at the bottom left corner, the version (i.e. date) will be listed at the bottom.
Some other good news regarding Medicare (if you are submitting claims) The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved the CMS Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) Package for the ADA Dental Paper Claim. The ADA has responded to a request from CMS that the Approved OMB No. 0938-1471 FORM CMS-10883 be added to the 2024 ADA Dental Paper Claim form so that providers may submit the ADA claim form to CMS – Medicare. So, what does this mean? Medicare will now accept dental claim form (both paper and electronic) for services that are dental in nature. As I am sure you know the number of dental services that are covered by Medicare was expanded for 2024 (i.e. coverage for extractions prior to transplant and/or cardiac surgery are a few examples) and we are expecting additional services to be added for 2025. Stay tuned for more as this unfolds. I will keep you up to date.
Fall also means it’s time for the annual AAOMS meeting. If you are going to the meeting, please make sure you stop by our booth, 833 and say hello. I have some very exciting news; be sure to stop by so I can share this amazing news with you personally!
Until next time, Keep Calm and Code On!
